Ford Global User Experience (GUX)

Overview:

This first-ever Ford Design System was developed to create a cohesive and intuitive user experience across various digital platforms globally. It aimed to enhance the overall usability and accessibility of Ford's digital experience, ensuring brand consistency.

Challenges:

The primary challenge was aligning diverse digital assets and interfaces used by different teams while maintaining high usability standards. Additionally, there was a need to accommodate various user demographics and ensure the system met accessibility guidelines.

Process & Solutions:

  • User Research: Conducted extensive user research to identify pain points and gather insights on user needs. This involved surveys and interviews with stakeholders.
  • Design Principles: Established core design principles to guide the development of the system. This included creating a flexible layout and ensuring responsive design.
  • Component Library: Developed a comprehensive component library with modular design elements that could be reused across different applications. This included typography, color palettes, buttons, and form elements.
  • Collaboration: Worked closely with developers and managed multiple vendor relationships to ensure seamless integration of the design system into existing platforms, providing detailed creative direction, specifications and guidelines for implementation.

The outcome of this project significantly improved design consistency and usability across all digital touchpoints. It reduced the time needed for design and development by 30%, as teams could utilize pre-built components.
